“We sometimes underestimate the influence of little things.”
-Charles W. Chesnutt
Extra little details may seem unimportant or can be overlooked when planning an event or wedding.
However, they can add SO much to a wedding and can make a huge event seem a bit more intimate.
Today I am sharing just a few of the “extra details” that I added to our wedding, and hope you find some ideas that you love!
A Silhouette Station
When I first met with my wedding coordinator, Christina with Pomp & Circumstance, I told her that I didn’t want to do just the typical photo booth at our wedding. I wanted something that guests could keep – similar to a party favor. Christina then told me about Cindi Rose, a silhouette artist.
**side note – Christina is FULL of awesome ideas – check out her website here –> Pomp & Circumstance
I could not have been more thrilled with the outcome of using Cindi! She was extremely personable while walking around mingling with guests, and her ability to cut out silhouettes in a matter of seconds is a talent beyond what I can comprehend. We created a “Silhouette Station” in which guests were able to sit down with Cindi to have their silhouettes made. My husband and my silhouette is something we will have to cherish from our wedding day for the rest of our lives.
A sweet treat (Steel City Pops)
Steel City Pops originated in Birmingham, AL where my husband is from. Making these a part of our reception was a great way to bring something from “home” here to Texas. These were a favorite of ALL ages – from the kids to the grandparents!
A thumbrint tree
In lieu of a guest book, I decided to use a thumbprint tree. Our tree is now hanging in our bedroom, filled with thumbprints from all of our guests, and is art that is truly unique as well as beautiful!
Welcome bags
When hosting a wedding in which many people will be coming in from out of town, welcome bags are a must! They are a great way to show thanks to those that traveled a long way to celebrate you. We found our bags at Michaels craft stores, and filled them with goodies unique to both Texas and Alabama.
Communion
Because of our faith and desire to begin our marriage on the foundation of Christ, Cory and I agreed that taking communion in our ceremony was a special way to begin our lives as one. In addition to taking communion, we wanted to honor my late grandfather, Opa, by having his Pastoral “Cincture” draped around us after taking communion. My Opa was a HUGE part of my life and faith, and in doing this, I felt his presence near and around me on the most important day of my life.
Collegiate details
I went to Auburn University, and Cory went to The University of Alabama…. and if you know anything about this rivalry you know that we usually just don’t speak on game days :) (kidding, kinda). Little details highlighting our love for Auburn and Alabama were placed throughout the reception, including: “War Eagle” and “Roll Tide” framed and written in calligraphy, Cory’s Alabama-themed groom’s cake, and pictures of us wearing our Auburn and Alabama game day jerseys.
Woven fans (for outdoor ceremonies)
Fans were a MUST for my outdoor, summer ceremony. I ordered these online from Oriental Trading. Guests were able to keep their fans, and ended up using them throughout the rest of the night – even on the dance floor!
A bible verse(Pictured at the top of the post) A bible verse chosen by the couple and continuously used on different wedding details is another great way to make a large wedding seem a little more intimate. We chose 1 John 4:19, which is a verse that truly describes how we felt about finding each other. This verse was used on our save the date, in our programs, and on a wooden painted sign that was placed towards the entry of our ceremony.
As stated above, little touches of extra details are a great way to personalize your wedding.

I actually got them made through my calligrapher, Kara Anne Paper!
Hey there 🙂
Where did you order the easel from that you used to hold up the sign with the Bible verse? I am looking all over for a pretty easel and can’t find one anywhere!
– Ashley Allen
Hi Ashley! I actually rented this easel from a rental company, but I use an easel from Hobby Lobby for a ton of other events! They have some great options there!
